Sir Vithaldas Damodar Thackersey

Sir Vithaldas Damodar Thackersey, was born in 1873. He was well known in public life & was associated with several prestigous organisations. Knighted By the British Government in 1908 at the young age of 35, Sir Vithaldas, was also a member of the Bombay Legislative Council, the Imperial Legislative Council & of the Legislative Assembly. He was also Mayor of Bombay Municipal Corporation. His business successes, in addition to his own Empire include the Presidency of the Millowner's Association, & the Indian Merchants Chamber, member of the Bombay Port Trust & first Chairman of the Bank of Baroda.

Lady Premlila Vithaldas Thackersey

Lady Premlila Vithaldas Thackersey (1894- 1977) was an educationist and Gandhian. Wife of Philanthropist Sir Vithaldas Thackersey, Lady Thackersey dedicated herself to the cause of women’s education and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour given by government. of India in 1975, for her contribution in the field of education. Lady Thackersey also became the first Vice-Chancellor of SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai, among many other things.

The Thackersey Trusts have been established with the intention of providing financial support & aid to the needy & deserving, & the upliftment of the community in general.


We are committed to promote & propagate education for women & girls in general & to provide aid for the education of needy children. We also help fund water management & sanitation programs in villages. We help with medical aid for the poor. We also help fund Institutions for the protection & shelter of animals.  We provided housing & accommodations to the poor & deserving in Mumbai.


We own & maintain a beautiful temple in the heart of Mumbai where one can offer prayers to the Thackersey Family deities in peace & serenity amidst a verdant green foliage.
